Geothermal Subdivision

Oakland-Wawanesa is enjoying a subdivision with environmental friendly, energy efficient Geothermal Technology.

We are proud to be the first community in Manitoba to build a subdivision that utilizes geothermal technology for heating. With co-operation with Manitoba Hydro, Wheat Belt Community Futures Development Corporation and others. This subdivision has 11 homes that range in size from 1100 to 1600 sq ft and are either one level or bi level. This new subdivision is located next to the United Church between Main Street and Commercial Street.

Information on Geothermal Systems

Geothermal systems work much the same way as a refrigerator does. By exchanging the earth’s energy using coils filled with a special liquid that are buried underground, the heat pump circulates the liquid around the pipes into your home to a heat exchanger. Not only does the system heat your home, but also heats your water. There is a cooling mode to keep your home cool during the summer. Homes are heated or cooled evenly, so there are no hot or cold spots.

The system is:
  • Environment friendly
  • Economical
  • Comfortable
  • Reliable
  • Safe
  • Versatile
  • and Low Maintenance
